The Srimad Bhagavad Gita also termed as Srimad Bhagwat Geeta or Bhagwad Geeta or Bhagwat Geeta or Geeta is a section of chapters 23 through 40 of Bhishma Parva taken from the epic Mahabharata written by sage Vyasa. It is considered as one of the main holy scriptures of Hinduism which consists of 700 verses that are divided into18 chapters.

The Srimad Bhagwad Gita is written in the Sanskrit language. It is a conversation between Lord Krishna and Arjuna before the start of the Kurushetra war in the epic Mahabharata as advice of what’s right and wrong when Arjuna was hesitant to go to war against his own cousins, the Kauravas. The Srimad Bhagavad Gita talks about the three paths to spirituality which are the right action (Karma Yoga), devotion (Bhakti Yoga), and knowledge (Jnana Yoga).

The knowledge found within the Srimad Bhagavad-Gita is incomparable as it gives specific information regarding the purpose of human existence, the immortality of the soul, and our eternal relationship with God. This information applies to each and every one of us without exception. Without realization of our divine relationship with God, it is impossible to establish our eternal relationship with Him. This divine relationship is our natural constitutional position and every human being's birthright.

The Bhagavad-Gita consists of 18 chapters. Each chapter is called a yoga. Yoga is the science of the individual consciousness attaining communion with the Ultimate Consciousness. So each chapter is a highly specialized yoga revealing the path of attaining realization of the Ultimate Truth. The first six chapters have been classified as the Karma Yoga section as they mainly deal with the science of the individual consciousness attaining communion with the Ultimate Consciousness through actions. These chapters are:

Chapter 2 : Sankhya Yoga - The Eternal Reality of the Souls Immortality

Chapter 3 : Karma Yoga - The Eternal Duties of Human Beings

Chapter 4 : Jnana Yoga - Approaching the Ultimate Truth

Chapter 5 : Karma Vairagya Yoga - Action and Renunciation

Chapter 6 : Abhyasa Yoga - The Science of Self Realization

The middle six chapters have been designated as the Bhakti Yoga section as they principally are pertaining with the science of the individual consciousness attaning communion with the Ultimate Consciousness by the path of devotion.

Chapter 7 : Paramahamsa Vijnana Yoga - Knowledge of the Ultimate Truth

Chapter 8 : Aksara-Parabrahman Yoga - Attainment of Salvation

Chapter 9 : Raja-Vidya-Guhya Yoga - Confidential Knowledge of the Ultimate Truth

Chapter 10 : Vibhuti-Vistara-Yoga - The Infinite Glories of the Ultimate Truth

The final six chapters are regarded as the Jnana Yoga section as they are primarily concerned with the science of the individual consciousness attaining communion with the Ultimate Consciousness through the intellect.
