  • In 4523, the Place Value of 2 is 20 as the face value of 2 is 2 and it is at tens position in number thus 2 x 10 = 20
  • In 4523, the Place Value of 5 is 500 as the face value of 5 is 5 and it is at hundreds of positions in number thus 5 x 100 = 500
  • In 4523, the Place Value of 4 is 4000 as the face value of 4 is 4 and it is at thousands of position in number thus 4 x 1000 = 4000

Types of Questions Asked in Competitive Exams on Face Value and Place Value of a Digit

Type 1: Find the difference between the place value and face value of a digit in a number

Demo Question: Find the difference between the place value and face value of digit 6 in numeral 2960543.

Solution

Place value of digit 6 in 2960543 = 60000
Face value of digit 6 in 2960543 = 6
Their difference = 60000 - 6 = 59994
