Hello Aspirants ! In this post we will discuss about various " methods used to find LCM of two or more numbers ".
Let's start the session !
Mainly there are two methods used to find out LCM of two or more numbers which are as follows :
1. PRIME FACTORIZATION METHOD
Step 1 : Express each numbers as a product of prime factors
Step 2 : Multiply the highest powers of all the prime factors of the required numbers to get the LCM
Let's see with an examples !
Question 1 : Find the LCM of 12, 24 and 36 by prime factorization method
Step 1 :
12 can be expressed as 2 x 2 x 3 = 22 x 31
24 can be expressed as 2 x 2 x 2 x 3 = 23 x 31
36 can be expressed as 2 x 2 x 3 x 3 = 22 x 32
Let's see with an examples !
Question 1 : Find the LCM of 12, 24 and 36 by prime factorization method
Step 1 :
12 can be expressed as 2 x 2 x 3 = 22 x 31
24 can be expressed as 2 x 2 x 2 x 3 = 23 x 31
36 can be expressed as 2 x 2 x 3 x 3 = 22 x 32
Step 2 :
Now, highest power of all the prime factors of 12, 24 and 36 are 23 and 32, thus LCM of 12, 24 and 36 are 23 x 32 = 72
2. BASIC LINE DIVISION METHOD
Step 1 : Write numbers on RHS and on LHS write prime factors which divides those numbers
Step 2 : Write quotients we get upon division in RHS and repeat the process until we get all quotients as 1.
Step 3. Multiply all numbers on LHS to get the LCM
Let's see with an example !
Question 2 : Find the LCM of 12, 24 and 36 by basic line division method
Thus, LCM of 12, 24 and 36 is 72.
