What is local value in maths with examples?

The local value of a digit in a number is also known as the place value of the digit in the required number.

The local value of a digit in a number is the value of the digit with reference to its position in that number. For example, the local value of 3 in 3577 is 3000.

For better understanding, let's look at some more examples:

The local value of 5 in 3577 is 500 as 5 is the required digit which is located at the hundredth place in the required number, so place value = 5 x 100 = 500.

The local value of 2 in 26 is 20 as 2 is the required digit which is located at the tens place in the required number, so place value = 2 x 10 = 20.

Note:

1. Local Value of a Digit in a number = Face Value of Digit x Position of Digit in Number

2. Local Value of a digit is also known as the Place Value of a digit.
